Football Odds Explained

Learn what decimal odds, implied probability, margins, and price movement really show.

How This Guide Helps

Decimal odds basics

Decimal odds show total return including stake. A GBP 10 bet at 2.20 returns GBP 22 if it wins. The implied probability is calculated by dividing 1 by the decimal price.

Why prices move

Football odds move when the market reacts to team news, betting volume, injuries, lineups, weather, or sharper opinion. A move can support your view, but it can also remove the value.

How to use odds pages

Compare the price with probability, market type, and kickoff time. If a selection still has an edge after the market updates, it is usually more useful than a stale early price.

Quick Reading Checklist

  • Short odds need a very high hit rate to be profitable.
  • Big odds can still be poor value if the true chance is tiny.
  • Bookmaker margin means all listed probabilities add up to more than 100 percent.
